UNDERSTANDING CHILDREN - PARENTS, THEIR DISEASE, TREATMENT AND THE DOCTOR!
HIGH TRIGLYICERIDE IN MY CHILD - MR.xxxx FROM INDIA
how did u come to the diagnosis?
have you tetsed your child for any blood tests?
was it associated with--
Elevated levels of the following:
cholesterol and triglyceride
TC
LDL
LDL-C
ApoB
TC/HDL-C ratio
ApoB/HDL-C ratio
ApoB/apoA-I ratio
Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a)
then the condition is called dyslipidemia, hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia and hyper chylomicronemia depending on the type of fat raised.
If LDL and VLDL type of cholesterol are not increased then we are dealing with a very rare form of hyperlipidemia or dyslipidemia.
child may get xanthomas or yellow spots or growths on skin, lipemic retinitis that is vessels in eye retina look yellow, can cause hypertension and heart diseases and also cause liver and spleen abnormal growth with or without pancreas getting involved. at later age hypertension and heart disease
they may have pink looking blood, abnormal levels of hemoglobin and sugar may be due to interference of triglycerides with the colorimetric tests done to estimate sugar or hemoglobin.
infant may have abdominal pain and maynot grow in weight.
most drugs are not recommended in children to treat. infants are usually kept on diet fat restriction under medical supervision and the diet restriction itself can cause growth failure.
lipid loweing drugs are started only if some systemic affection is noted.
