UNDERSTANDING CHILDREN - PARENTS, THEIR DISEASE, TREATMENT AND THE DOCTOR!
My baby is 2 weeks old. Fourth day after birth, baby showed symptoms of convulsion. After taking MRI and EEG doctor says there is some abnormality. Could you please tell me about the curability of neonatal convulsion
convulsion on day 4 of life:
if the newborn is otherwise normal in feeding and cry since birth and had no fetal distress... the convulsion may not have serious implication.
the common reasons by which a baby may convulse on day 4 of life, is low sugar, low calcium
and at times nervous system damage. if nervous system problem were there the child would have been drowsy or convulsing from day 1 of life, and it may cause mental deficit to some extent.
MRI EEG may be reported as abnormal by a less experienced doctors, even if they are specialists.
most important markers about brain growth getting affected by convulsion are head size, and milstones.
keep a close watch on these.
Even though some nervous damage wa sthought off, it can be madified to a greta extent by early intervention physiotherapy.
