tummy ache with fever RE: online health advice - health and illhealth (holly gibb)

constipation is a chronic problem in school children, formula feds and who have rich milk intake and low calcium intake.
easiest way to improve is
1. wash of stacked piles of stools by repeated bowel wash/ enema not more than 3 a week under medical supervision till tummy distenstion goes off.
2. improve water intake not to dilute stools but more to prevent bowel tendency to retain water sensing some lack of water in body. water intake may be increased to 1.5 times of prior intake, again under medical supervision.
3. avoid constipating diet like milk, pomegrande and like others, and thos e containing high proteins
4.add softening diet like ripe bananas, rice, stool softenere
5. rest all medicines dont do much help in chronic constipations.
6. its always prudent to rule out any bowel obstruction by performing a sonography or barium meal as your doctor may suggest.

Above management is true for dietary constipation, improving activity and exercises add to the good mobility of bowel.

my son keeps vomitting and having high temp one min his fine nxt his so tired and weak he cant move and sleeps for hours his complaining of survere tummy ache. ive seen doctor he said its just a virus but its been weel over a week since this began. im concerned it may be something like apendix or hurnia.
=====
presence of fever or high fever with abdomen pain can be infection like typhoid fever, hepatitis or urinary infection. These may need some tests to diagnose. and so the treatment may differ. such cases can turn into emergencies so its prudent to be under constant medical supervision in an hospital if symptoms are really that severe.

exactly where does it pain?
right side or left side of tummy?
if its on the left side it cantbe appendix.

is the swelling close to his penis and pain in scrotum or testes area?
if not, it cannot be hernia.

is the pain in center?
if yes, it can be acidity.

is the pain at only one place and not moving?
if yes, it can be constipation.

does the pain move from back to front or side to side?
then its more like stone or more like bowel colics.

all of them can have vomiting. so please be clear in explaining character and position of pain so i can guide you further.

RE: My daughter is 18 months old and she is not interested in eating anything

My daughter is 18 months old and she is not interested in eating anything.
===== this is a very common complaint at this age. common reasons for decreased intake at this age is reduced growth velocity so they have weight gain in reduced speed than it was in first year of life. I would be more worried if weight is less than 10 for an Indian child. if not less than 10, she doesn't seem to have major feeding problem.
AT this age children suffer from repeated tonsil and adenoid infections and throat complaints including vomiting. This is a major obstacle for a child's desire to eat. child will refuse most feeds that are difficult to chew or may cause some discomfort in chewing. The infection phase may last from days to months. keeping good oral hygeine, regular brushing teeth and giving enough liquids and increasing frequency of feeds to 6- 8 times a day with or without medicines for infection as per doc suggestion may give major relief. Most throat infections are chronic and may need regular nebulisation with saline to improve intake causing throat comfort.

She splits whtaever i give her.
========== This is very common in 1. throat infections 2. when children dont like the feed by taste or consistency 3. when they have some feed in mouth 4. when they need a burp.
it can be easily improved by improving consistency of feed to more sticky-liquid; taking very small quantity per spoon or feed; taking breaks during single feed. burping out if you find stomach bloated and checking the taste of feed by self.., you may need little more salt or some taste or flavour at times.

She is not putting on weight.
======== so when intake is reduced, child may not put weight. I will be more perfect if I am aware of exact weight. weight gain is significant if it falls too low on growth charts in otherwise growing well child, seen as a drop in growth chart. very low weight is commonly seen in malnutrition, inadequate feeding and in some longstanding illnesses, which i dont feel is a problem in your case. long standing throat problems commonly reduce intake and cause no weight gain for a long time.

How much she should eat at this age at a time?
> usually a 18 moth old child should be eating around 100 cal per day adiet sheet can be planned accordingly keeping in mind frequency and consistency of feeds. she should be offered food at least 6 times a day, with good easy to access calorie snacks ( no fat restriction at this age). they should be able to eat about half of full adult's eating for a day.
