PROLONGED INFECTIONS IN THROAT AND LUNGS RE: Feedback via the Ask Health Query to Dr SK. Get answered for free.

REGULAR PAEDIATRICIANS WHO WE CONSULT HAVE BEEN INSISTING THAT HE IS SUFFERING FROM NORMAL INFECTIONS IN THROAT AND LUNGS. BUT THE CONDITION OF THE CHILD IS NOT IMPROVING AT ALL INSPITE OF USING SEVERAL MEDICINES LIKE AZITHRAL, PCEF ETC., ALONG WITH NEBULISATION, NASAL DROPS.
>
> WHAT COULD BE THE PROBABLE REASON FOR SUCH PROLONGED PERIOD OF ILLNESS? WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST THE MEDICATION SHOULD BE?",""

Two common reasons:
1. unresolved infection with persistant focus as in adenoids and tonsils
2. no infection, but condition like allergy like say asthma or allergic rhinitis.
it would have beene asier fro me if you had mentioned age, number of episodes in last 6 months, presenece of fever with each episode, and anytime if any antibiotic therapy taken for 10 days or more.

  1. Hello Doctor
My Daughter got fever on 24th Aug when examined it was found that tonsils were swallow and they are large also in size. Zathrin was given for 3 days. During this period she used to get high fever of 103 F. After 3 days course I went to a physician she gave Opox-100 which is cefpodoxime for 5 days along with crocin. This treatment was completed on 02.09.2012.

Now again she got fever yesterday of ~102.5 F & then I gave crocin one tablet & went to doctor in the evening. The doctor gave clarithromycin but I didnt want to risk my child on a new drug, so i went to another doctor he said it is some kind of bronchitis attack & she is allergic. gave Cefixime (Zifi CV 100) & Calpol with NICIP for high fever beyond 101 F. this time it seems that toncils are normal. Currently weather in Gujarat is rainy season very humid, & hot also.

Now after 3 tablets of Zifi she again got fever of 101.9 F which could not be controlled by NICIP even in 2.5 hours. It has now started going down, when again consulted doctor he wrote Asthalinm syrup & NImeson half tablet for fever.

    I need second opinion.
